How many years the earth stood in this chaos is unknown to us. Any length of time put forward would only be a guess. However, there can be little doubt from the rest of the story that God was working on a plan for planet earth. God swung the earth into just the right position in relation to the other bodies of our solar system so that physical life could thrive on its surface. What God was planning was so awesome that it would defy the imagination of man for 6000 years following its initiation. Moreover, the interesting thing is that Satan being on the earth was an advantageous part of the plan. God did not decide to remove Satan from the earth, but to use him as a tool to further his master plan. Had God’s plan not included Satan, He could have started His project somewhere else in the universe. The fact that God chose earth for His plan for humanity shows that Satan is an important part of that plan. What good could come from Satan? We will see the answer to this as the story unfolds.
Before this plan could begin, God had to put the earth back into a condition fit for physical life. The physical life of most importance, this time, would be human life. However, much other physical life had to exist as support for man. Everything had to be set aright. Therefore, in order to begin this work of refinishing the earth’s surface, God sent out his spirit and it hovered over the face of the waters.
The spirit of God is the mind of God. Although God resides in the third heaven, his spirit permeates the universe. Up until the beginning of the 20th century, man’s mind could only extend as far as he could see, with any degree of speed. However, this all began to change with the invention of the telephone, the telegraph, radio, television and other means of direct communication. Now we have the computer, which gives man the powers that could cause him to believe that he is God. If this takes place – and the Bible indicates that it will – man would be making the very same mistake, as did Satan. He would ultimately find himself fighting with God! The name of the battlefield upon which this war between man and God will take place is Armageddon! The outcome will be no different this time around then it was the first time Satan fought against God. For Satan will indeed be the one who has seduced the nations of the world, over whom he is a god, to join him in this one last attempt to overthrow God.
Revelation 16:14 For they are the spirits of devils (demons), working miracles, [which] go forth unto the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty.
Revelation 16:16 And he gathered them together into a place called in the Hebrew tongue Armageddon.
The way that God does His work is with His mind. His mind began to concentrate on the problem at hand. God’s mind permeates the universe, but there seems to have been a concentration of God’s mind over the surface of the earth as He contemplated reshaping it for man’s habitat.
Before we proceed to the restoration of the earth, of Genesis Chapter One, we should note that the spirit of God hovered over the waters. In other words, before the six days of refurbishing and creation began the water covered earth was already in place. The earth had come to be chaotic although it was originally perfect in its creation. Therefore, an indefinite amount of time had elapsed between verse one and verse two. Furthermore, when we put the rest of the bible together to see what caused this corruption, it is obvious that another indefinite amount of time elapsed between verse two and verse three.
Genesis 1:3 And Elohiym said, Let there be light – and there was light.
There is nothing in the above statement that tells us that God created light on the first day of His work. If there had been no light already created, this statement could indicate that God created light. However, as we have seen in verses 1 and 2 above, the creation of the material universe was long before this time. The sun was already a part of the creation. Otherwise, one cannot explain the dinosaurian age. What God did with this statement was to indicate a clearing away of the volcanic ash that surrounded the earth so that the light of the sun could shine through.
At this point, we need to understand how God creates or brings about changes to His creation. The holy spirit is the mind of God – some biblical writers use these two words as a synonym for God or they use the personification figure. God creates with His mind. The Messiah told His disciples that faith was the way one accomplished difficult things – like moving a mountain. In fact, He said that nothing was impossible, if one has faith. Faith is an essence of the mind to bring about the impossible. The Messiah was not speaking in figures when He made this statement.
Matthew 17:20 …for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.
Below is a living example of how the Messiah put into practice what He was referring to in the above statement. The Messiah and His disciples had put out to sea in order to cross over the Galilee. A great storm had developed and the ship was about to perish. The Messiah rebuked the wind, saying, “Peace, be still” – and there was a great calm. In other words, the Messiah used the essence of faith – and the power of the holy spirit, His mind, did the work of bringing the sea into a calm. There are other examples, such as the feeding of the five thousand and the curse placed on the fig tree. In fact, the entire miracle producing life that the Messiah lived was a manifestation of how God creates. His mind does the work from an expressed desire.
Mr. 4:37 And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full. 38 And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish? 39 And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.
In fact, the maintenance of the entire universe and its continued existence is by the power of the mind (spirit) of God. The very breath of God upholds all things. Job tells us that if God gathered to Himself His spirit and His breath that all flesh would perish and man would return to dust! Therefore, in the final analysis, we would have to say that all of the material creation – including man – is in reality a manifestation of the mind of God. Another way of putting this is that the entire creation is nothing less than the very mind of God!
Hebrews 1:3 Who being the brightness of [his] glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;
Job 34:14 If he (God) set his heart upon man, if he gather unto himself his spirit and his breath; 15 All flesh shall perish together, and man shall turn again unto dust.
There is another aspect of creation that we need to explore. Which Being of the God Family actually spoke the words to bring about the refurbishing of the earth? It was the Messiah in His pre-human existence that did the creation of the material universe as we have already seen. The Messiah is the Word of God. The “Word of God” is the name of the Messiah. John tells us this in Revelation.
Revelation 19:13 And he [was] clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God.
Psalms 33:6 By the word of the LORD were the heavens made; and all the host of them by the breath of his mouth.
It was the Word of God, or the one who became the Messiah that actually spoke the words that brought everything into existence and did the refurbishing work necessary after the earth had become an empty and chaotic expanse of waste. The word <Elohiym> tells us that some member of the God Family did the work of re-creation, but the New Testament tells us that the Messiah created everything. Therefore, it was the one who became the Messiah of the New Testament – the Word of God – who said, “Let there be light”.
There has been a great controversy over whether the light referred to in verse 3 is speaking of the sun or of some other light. The conflict seems to arise because of a misunderstanding of what happened on the 4th day. We will get to the 4th day later, but there is no doubt that the light of the first day was from the sun. We know that the sun did exist before this time because of the dinosaurian age. However, the contextual reason for this conclusion is that day and night began after the very first act of bringing the earth back into an inhabitable place for plant, animal, and human life. According to verse 5, “evening and morning were the first day”. The cycle of day and night cannot exist unless the earth is spinning and a bright object is producing light onto one part of the earth, while the other part is in darkness. There is no indication that this was some sort of spiritual light.
One major aspect of the Genesis account overlooked by the men of religion and men of science is that the work of the first day already assumes the existence of a water-covered earth. Bringing the earth into existence is not part of the discussion of the seven days of Genesis one. Everything done during these seven days is cosmetic to an already existing earth! This fact alone should tell us that the creation of the earth was before the 7-day period. Had one of the days been devoted to laying the foundations of the earth, one could assume a different perspective. However, before the 7-day period of work began, the waters covered the earth (verse 2). This fact alone should cause men of religion to realize that they have assumed an error in their paradigm of the Genesis creation. Nevertheless, the men of science receive no glory for accepting the same paradigm for argument purposes, rather than looking into the matter for themselves. They consider their theory of evolution superior because it has triumphed over the false assumption of the men of religion!
Genesis 1:4-5 And Elohiym saw the light that it was good; and Elohiym made a difference between the light and the darkness: Elohiym called the light Day, and the darkness He called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.
God looked at His first act of bringing the earth into an inhabitable place, restoring the sunlight, and considered that it had been the right and good thing to do. In other words, there was nothing wrong with what He had performed that first day. The earth was in darkness and the clearing of the atmosphere so that the light of the sun could come through and bring its healing rays upon the earth was a good thing. The statement, “And Elohiym saw the light that it was good,” informs us that God surveyed his handiwork and was pleased with His accomplishment for that first day.
God may have “divided the light from the darkness” as expressed by the KJV version translation, if that is a correct translation of the Hebrew phrase. There is the possibility that God stopped the spinning of the earth because of the war with Satan. In fact, some physicists claim that the earth could not spin without the sunlight. If the darkness was thick enough with debris, this alone could have caused the earth to cease spinning. By causing the light to again come through, the earth would have begun spinning once again making a division between the light and the darkness – with the result of day and night.
Of course, if there was a corruption of the Van Allen Belt during the war with Lucifer, that too could have stopped the spinning of the earth. The rays of the sun bounce off the “Van Allen Belt” to the earth and cause it to spin, according to some physicists. If God began the spin of the earth on this day in order to create day and night, then a repair of the “Van Allen Belt” may have taken place after the removal of the debris to let the light shine on the earth.
There is also the possibility that the earth was originally like the moon and did not spin although the deposits of dinosaurs around the globe would seem to rule out this theory. If this was the case, then the creation of the “Van Allen Belt” may have taken place on this first day so that the earth could be a spinning planet.
If either possibility existed, then God could have begun or resumed the spin of the earth to bring about day and night, on this first day’s work. The spread of dinosaurs over the earth in large deposits could have been the result of a stopping of the earth’s spin. Such a stop, depending on how quickly this took place, could have leveled the mountains and forced the waters to spread over the surface of the earth. The swirling of the waters could have brought deposits of dinosaurs to various places, assuming that they were lying on the surface of the earth from this sudden calamity.
The Hebrew could also imply that God made a difference between the light and the darkness by naming them. Of course, assuming that it is the light of the sun that makes the earth spin, as according to some physicists, then the act of day and night could have come about as a result of causing the light of the sun to shine on the earth. This assumes the creation of the “Van Allen Belt” rather than its corruption, by the war with Lucifer.
The Hebrew of the phrase translated into English “divided the light <from> the darkness” does not necessarily include the idea of <from> in it. The literal translation is, “God made a difference between the light and between the darkness.” By choosing the words <from> and <divided>, the translators have thrown this statement into a creational statement rather than a statement expressing God’s desire to name the light and the darkness for what they were. Of course, even the expression, “and Elohiym made a difference between the light and the darkness” can express the act of the beginning of, or the resumption of the spinning of the earth.
A little later, God gave Adam the job, of naming the animals. However, Moses makes it clear that God named light and darkness. God took that as His prerogative. There is the possibility that the spiritual nuances of light and darkness, later developed in the Bible, has something to do with this. Lucifer’s act of sinning against God brought about darkness. The Bible uses darkness to represent sin. God’s first act of establishing light dispelled the darkness and set things right. Therefore, light came to represent righteousness. God used His prerogative to name light and darkness. He called light, “Day” and He called darkness, “Night”. Later we see in the Bible that one is of the Day, if he does what is right and one is of the Night if he does what is wrong.
1 Thessalonians 5:5 Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness.
Therefore, verse 5 could be an explanation for the statement “And God made a difference between the light and the darkness”. By naming the light Day and naming the darkness Night, God was making a difference between them in a linguistic sense. The difference was there, and God was expressing that difference by calling each what it really was. In other words, light and darkness were set apart from one another and for a specific purpose.
The complete period of what came to be called a “24-hour day” was made up of half-light and half-darkness. “And the evening and the morning were the first day…” expresses that both Day and Night came to be called “day” by man. One should understand that the word “Day” in the phrase “And God called the light Day” and the word “day” in the phrase “evening and morning were the first day” are not synonymous. The name that God gave to the light was “Day”. However, the name that man gave to one complete cycle of light and darkness was “day”. God allowed Moses to express himself in this statement according to the idiom of his time.
